Who We Are

The Skagit Wedding Society was created by Amber Peterson and Laura Hartner. Their vision was to create a place where wedding professionals could learn from each, collaborate and promote the wedding industry in Skagit Valley.

Amber Peterson
Amber PetersonCo-Founder
Amber has been in the wedding industry since 2010 as the owner and lead planner of Cheers Wedding Planning & Design. She believes that the key to a successful wedding business is having a network around you that is dedicated to growing your business, this is what fueled the start of the Skagit Wedding Society. She saw a need for a strong wedding community that promotes relationships over competition in Skagit County.

Since the start of the Skagit Wedding Society Amber has returned to her marketing background through the launch of Cheers Consulting Group, a boutique marketing firm dedicated to helping wedding professionals grow their business through strategic integrated marketing communication.

Amber holds a Bachelors Degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a Masters of Integrated Marketing Communications from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL.

Laura Hartner
Laura HartnerCo-Founder
Laura has spent the last seven years coordinating events across Skagit County. As the Events & Communications Director for Anacortes Chamber of Commerce, she produced three annual events (Bier on the Pier, Spring Wine Festival, and Waterfront Festival) that brought thousands of visitors to the Anacortes and Skagit area. Before moving to Skagit County she worked for King 5 News and Northwest Public Radio. Laura is currently the Development & Outreach Director for Skagit Land Trust, and oversees their marketing, fundraising, publications, and community engagement events.

Laura loves to bring people together and find tools to help them succeed. When Amber, Laura’s life-long friend, approached her about starting an organization to help wedding professionals working in the Skagit area, it was easy to say yes. Laura has had the honor of watching many small business owners bloom, make connections, and create the work-life balance they desire through their involvement in the society.
